“April showers bring May flowers.” That is the saying we hear over and over again this month. Meteorologically, it is true. In the changing of the seasons, temperature and barometric fluctuations produce nimbus clouds that bring precipitation. It is a horticultural fact as well. The increased precipitation, paired with extending sunlight, provide the fuel for vegetative growth. There is even a psychological component to the phrase. As we emerge from the dark winter months, we yearn for the warmth and sunshine of spring. The phrase is a hopeful reminder on dark and stormy days of a brighter tomorrow. I think there’s a faithful component as well.
Actually, our “faith showers” began in March. We finished the month with the dark and stormy days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. We witnessed the passion of our Lord as he was sacrificed for our sin. But on the first of this month the Son rose to a new day dawning. The resurrection of Easter morning has given us a new understanding of showers this April. We are showered by God’s blessings. We celebrate the gift of life that has been given to us through Christ’s victory over the grave. We see that gift of life sprouting up all around us. Just as the flowers emerge from their buds, we’ll see growth in our ministry here at Ascension. Look for developments in our worship services, the celebration of milestones for our children and young adults, and increased opportunities for service this spring. Ministry is sprouting up all around us this season. As the blessings rain down, enjoy the flowering of the spirit!
Yours in Christ,
